Imagine trying to teach a highly intricate piece of equipment, like a tensiometer, to a classroom full of students. Our founder, Dr. Alidad, faced this exact challenge, and it sparked an idea that has now become our company’s mission: to provide seamless access to surface science.
Dr. Alidad spotted a need: a tool that would make his life, and the lives of researchers and teachers like him, easier.
Founded on 25th February 2016, we took our first steps.
We didn't just claim our products were good; we proved it with two peer-reviewed papers: a Surface Tension paper in August 2017 and a Contact Angle paper in March 2018.
Initially, we made friends with university professors, to whom we provided portable instruments designed for research & teaching.
An employee-led management buyout sharpened our focus: bring the same academic rigor to real-world industry needs in QA lines, supplier alignment, and production troubleshooting.
Trained on 20000+ images we introduced ML-assisted workflows to cut measurement time, reduce variability, and help teams get consistent results faster.
We launched our Dataset Series so anyone can explore citable, well-documented measurements for benchmarking, teaching, and method development.

Ph.D. in scientific instrumentation and remote engineering, specialising in image processing algorithms and software for image capture.
CEO
Holds an MBA from Schulich School of Business and a BE in IT. He joined Droplet Lab in July 2019 and now leads sales and marketing.
CSO & Co-founder
Holds a Ph.D. in interfacial fluid mechanics (University of Alberta) and a master’s from Imperial College London. He leads Droplet Lab’s manufacturing and design.
Scientific Advisor & Co-founder
Dr. Amirfazli, a leading expert in surface wetting and superhydrophobic coatings, has 250+ publications, edits Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, and has received multiple research awards.
Chief Of Operations
Holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering (Ryerson) and an MASc from York University. He focuses on the custom AI behind the instrument.
Mechanical Design Engineer
Holds a Master’s in Industrial Engineering and a BE in Mechanical Engineering. Since joining Droplet Lab in 2020, he has led instrument design and manufacturing.
