Hydrogel and Biomaterial Wettability for Tissue Engineering: Contact Angle That Survives Drying and Absorption
Wettability shapes protein adsorption and cell adhesion on hydrogels, scaffolds and coated implants. Measure water contact angle with a fixed swelling, blotting and read time, so drying and absorption do not decide the number, and compare formulations like with like.
Validated measurement approach for hydrogels
How the Dropometer itself has been validated, and how a customer measured hydrogels with it.
Peer reviewed method
The Dropometer drop shape method is published in Review of Scientific Instruments and Colloids and Surfaces A. Contact angle was validated against a KRUSS DSA100E, with a published accuracy of 0.35°.

A Bioactive Materials (2025) study cast GelMA and GelTA hydrogels in a 500 µm PDMS mould, swelled them in DPBS for 3 hours, blotted them and measured 16 µL water drops after 1 s on the Dropometer, n = 3. GelTA hydrogels read about 50 to 70°, a range the authors link to cell adhesion.
