Saline contact angle on titanium discs, before and after plasma treatment
Harvard University School of Dental Medicine, five discs per surface type (Biomimetics, 2025)
A dental research group at Harvard University used the facility's Dropometer to measure how plasma treatment changed the wettability of titanium implant discs. On machined discs the saline contact angle fell from 83.1° to 24.1°. On rough discs it fell from 77.3° to 15.7°. The same five discs of each type were measured before and after a 30 second plasma treatment, and both changes were significant at p < 0.0001.
